We Are For the Child

Every day children are taken from their home because of the tragic loss of a parent due to illness, violence or incarceration.  We assume these children will have a safe place to live, to be treated with dignity and compassion, so they can recover from the traumatic loss of their home and family. But, our child welfare system is often overburdened with the growing numbers and needs of children who are in foster care through no fault of their own.  That’s where CASA can help.

What is CASA?

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children. We are a national network of nearly 1,000 community based programs that recruit, train and support citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in our courts and communities.  With a CASA volunteer, a child is half as likely to languish in foster care and the child welfare system, and he or she is that much more likely to find a safe, permanent home.

Who is a Coweta CASA?

We are committed men and women --from all walks of life – who believe that every child has the right to be treated with dignity, to be safe, and to thrive in the embrace of a loving family.  Coweta CASA volunteers are trained volunteers appointed by the Juvenile Court to advocate for children experiencing foster care.  Each CASA follows one court case – a child or group of siblings – providing caring attention and a voice in court.  We are for the child in a hectic, overworked system.
